Volunteers from across the Mississippi Gulf Coast participated in the United Way of South Mississippi Day of Action on June 21.
Held in conjunction with United Way Worldwide’s global day of service, Day of Action provided opportunities for local volunteers, donors and advocates to be part of solutions that make a real difference in people’s lives.
Locally, five businesses, including Sparklight, Coast Electric Power Association, Harrah’s Gulf Coast, Vivint and Woodforest National Bank, sent a total of 60 volunteers to community sites.
Volunteers fed the hungry at Feed My Sheep in Gulfport and Loaves & Fishes in Biloxi, cleaned and walked the animals at the Humane Society of South Mississippi in Gulfport, and did landscaping and general maintenance at Back Bay Mission in Biloxi.
A second cohort of volunteers served at Hancock Resource Center in Waveland, Manna Ministries in Picayune and Make-A-Wish Mississippi in Gulfport on June 25.
“United Way’s mission is to mobilize people around solutions that build stronger communities, and Day of Action is a perfect example of that mission,” said Kathy Springer, CEO of United Way of South Mississippi. “We are grateful for our business partners, our volunteers, and for the selfless work of the community organizations we are able to serve.”
