The mission of United Way of South Mississippi is to support the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community, especially those in need. We recognize that each individual brings a unique perspective and experience which contributes to the advancement of our mission. We embrace this rich and sociological diverse backdrop to broaden our understanding and acceptance of those we seek to serve. United Way of South Mississippi strives to create a culture that is inclusive and supportive, while fostering an environment built upon respect, participation and collaboration between all our members, donors, volunteers, advocates, community members and employees. Underlying the mission and vision of United Way of South Mississippi is a firm belief in the inclusion of all people. Our values include respect for all cultures and individuals with an aim toward understanding and celebrating the unique qualities of our citizens.
United Way of South Mississippi defines diversity to include all human characteristics that make us unique as individuals. It includes everyone and excludes no one. Economic status, geographic origin, race, creed, religion, marital status, lifestyle, disability, gender, gender identity, age, origin, education, position, ancestry, veteran status are just some of the characteristics that define us as people.

United Way of South Mississippi is committed to the recruitment of individuals to fill volunteer positions within the organization without regard to all human characteristics that make us unique as individuals. United Way of South Mississippi will aggressively seek volunteers from area communities who reflect and acknowledge the value of diversity and inclusion and embody it in their personal actions.

Responsibility:
The Board of Directors, management, staff and volunteers must create and sustain an environment that encourages diverse viewpoints and inclusive behavior. The Executive Committee will review this policy and its effectiveness on a bi-annual basis. The committee will also oversee and foster the development of initiatives that support the Diversity and Inclusion Policy of United Way of South Mississippi.
